Todays quotation is from Belle Ruin by Martha Graham.
I turned away and put the button card down to examine the lipsticks. I wondered what it would be like to apply all this makeup – eye shadow, mascara, eye liner – those looked especially hard. And hardly worth it, if Ree-Jane’s face was any example. I thought of other faces, rouged and powdered, and wondered how much difference it made. If you wore it for a long enough time you’d start to believe you wouldn’t look good without it. A little wave of sadness washed over me that I didn’t need.
