Appearances could be deceptive

Todays quotation is from Cover Up by John Francome.

Rob had long learned that where horses were concerned appearances could be deceptive. Some of the scruffiest looking nags had carried him triumphantly round three miles of steeplechase fences; some of the most elegant had dumped him at the first ditch. The same principle applied to the men and women who owned horses. One of the richest he´d known wore spectacles held together by Sellotape; a woman who guaranteed a winner at every Cheltenham festival appeared to dress courtesy of Oxfam.
